Ryan (Class of ’06) and Paula Short of Littleton, NC proudly announce the birth of their daughter, Mary Katherine Short. Mary Katherine arrived at 12:21 a.m on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Halifax Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and measured 17 inches in length. Paternal grandparents Richard (Class of ’80) and Betsy Short. Maternal grandparents Kenny and Tammy Deloatch, Rex Crowley of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Great-grandmothers Mary Frances Short Kramer and Peggy Byers.

Ava Rivers Burr was born on July 22, 2017. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 inches long. Proud parents are Robert and Cheryl Taylor Burr (Class of ’93) and big sister, Reese.

Chip (Class of ’03) and Taylor (Class of ’04) Parrish welcomed Charlee Harlow Parrish on October 12, 2017. She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 19.75 inches. Big brother, Channing (4), is over the moon to have a playmate!

Owen Meade Blackwell was born January 17, 2018 at 7:46 a.m. He weighed 7.9 pounds and
was 21 inches long. His parents are Austin Meade Blackwell (Class of ’08) and Murphy Owen
Blackwell (Class of ’10).

Kathryn Dianne Sykes (Class of ’10) married Johnathan Eric Allen (Class of ’06) on October
1, 2016. Kathryn is a graduate of Radford University and is employed as a Kindergarten teacher for Prince George County Public Schools. Eric is the owner/operator of Perfect Match
Masonry Staining. They currently reside in Emporia, VA.

Adam Seay Grassel (Class of ’10) married Tailor Elizabeth Maitland on June 24, 2017 in
Dundas at Perseverance Christian Church. The reception was held at Lunenburg Country Club in Kenbridge. Adam is the son of Rick and Lea Ann (Class of ’99) Grassel of Lawrenceville. Tailor is the daughter of Michael Maitland (Class of ’92) and Michelle Cifers, both of Emporia. The couple resides in Dolphin, VA.

They say “Once a Viking, always a Viking.” This statement is certainly true for this group of 7 friends that graduated from BA in 1985. For the last 30+ years, they have made an effort to meet every year or so for a mini reunion. They’ve been friends for the most part for 40 or more years and share a bond the no time or distance can sever. This year, the group turned 50 and celebrated in style in
November by spending 5 days in Montego Bay, Jamaica. They were given a keepsake by Tracey Owen that said “BA Girls-Best in the World.” The group is spread out all over the state of Virginia as well as South Carolina.

The National Aircraft Resale Association (NARA) recently names its 2018 slate of new Board of Directors and Products and Services Member Advisory Council. Mente Group Brian Proctor (Class of ’88) is the incoming NARA chairman and president.

Congratulations to Brian Poarch (Class of ’90) on being inducted into the Richard Bland College Athletics Hall of Face on January 20, 2018. Poarch is Richard Bland’s fifth class inductee and was a member of the men’s basketball team from 1990-1992.
